Food allergies are more common today than they were in previous generations. Or, perhaps it’s just that we didn’t have a term to describe the reaction that we experienced when we ate certain foods. A food allergy is an abnormal response to food triggered by your body’s immune system, and not all food allergies are alike. The most common food allergies for adults and kids are different. Kids are most allergic to eggs, milk, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, and wheat. The most common allergies in adults are fish, shellfish, peanuts and tree nuts.
How do I know so much about food allergies? Pretty much everyone in my family has food allergies…and they’re all different. My son and I have the most severe food allergies, and his allergy to peanuts and tree nuts is the primary reason why our production facility is 100% Nut-Free! As I mentioned in a previous blog, my son is the official PrePOPsterous® Taste Tester and we discovered he had major food allergies a year before I launched the company. His allergies inspired me to differentiate our gourmet popcorn by committing to creating a nut-free production facility. This means that there are no tree nuts or peanuts in our factory…anywhere!
